Fresh Produce Quality Inspection Programme

Region: UK Wide

Sector: Fresh Produce

"An independent quality inspection regime on behalf of a UK retailer, covering all lines of fresh produce delivered into their business."

The Brief

The client was experiencing rapid growth in both sales and product lines, meaning a greater number of suppliers to manage. They wanted an independent company to provide impartial visibility into the quality of their offer, to allow their team of fresh produce buyers to drive improvements in quality, and to ensure customer perception was of a high quality in-store offer.

The Project

FSL devised an inspection regime that covered all lines of fresh produce, from all suppliers. Deliveries are inspected on arrival at regional distribution centres at several locations around the country, with all inspected packs graded for compliance to specifications on all aspects of quality: weight, mould, damage, condition, size, colour, etc. Corresponding samples are then purchased from nominated stores and assessed against the same specifications, to determine the degree to which further distribution and handling has affected quality at point of sale.

The Benefits

.

Our client receives powerful reports, both online and in pdf format, which allow their entire team to analyse exactly how any product or supplier is performing in terms of compliance to specification.

.

Suppliers have access to concise and completely independent data, through our Online Dashboard, allowing them to analyse their own performance and to implement corrective actions.

.

Over 2 years, the client has seen a measurable improvement in fresh produce quality, both on delivery into depot, and at point of sale. This results in reduced wastage and a better product in front of the customer.
