"Independent surveys to assess damages in fresh produce consignments on arrival in the UK."

The Brief

Our client had received a consignment of asparagus, shipped by air. There had been a delay in shipping, during which the cool chain required to maintain the quality of fresh produce had not been maintained. The produce had arrived at very high temperatures, showing considerable deterioration in quality, making the consignment unmarketable. The importer needed a third party inspection to verify the losses.

The Project

FSL attended the clients premises at short notice, carrying out an inspection using sampling procedures complying with the requirements of ISO 874. During the inspection, all elements of quality were assessed, detailed information collected regarding the consignment, the packaging and the temperature seen. The report, submitted the following morning, provided the specific percentages of the consignment affected by the defects found, and the potential causes of that deterioration.
